About Akartis

The company

Akartis Consulting, LLC is an Illinois limited liability company founded in 2009 and based on the Northwest Side of Chicago. It is minority-owned and operated.

We deliver bespoke business and technology solutions for clients in media, manufacturing, education, real estate, the arts, the public sector, and beyond. The work ranges from selecting and installing the network for a new building to writing the one piece of software a business cannot buy, to sitting down with an owner and working out what a practice is actually worth.

In 2026 we began building our own product, Chiron, an adaptive textbook for iPad, iPhone, and Mac.

How we work

Small by design. You work directly with the founder from the first conversation through delivery and support. There is no handoff to a junior team and no account manager between you and the person doing the work.

Practical over fashionable. We recommend what fits the organization and its budget, not what is new. A lot of our work is choosing the boring, reliable option and making sure it is set up correctly.

We finish. Purchasing, installation, configuration, documentation, and the follow-up support call three months later are all part of the engagement. A project is done when the people using it no longer need us for it.

Honest advice. If the right answer is “you do not need this,” that is the answer you get.

The founder

Matthew Braun founded Akartis in 2009 after years of running technology for organizations that could not justify a full-time IT department. His work since has covered network and server infrastructure, desktop and email administration, custom software development, platform administration, financial analysis, and security for small and mid-sized organizations. He designs and builds Chiron.
