Help with the Chiron app and server.

Getting help

Email: hello@akartis.net with “Chiron” in the subject line. We aim to reply within two business days.

Bug reports and feature requests: the issue tracker on GitHub. Search first; someone may have hit the same thing.

Documentation: the README covers setup, running the server, building the apps, and hosting.

What to include in a report

  • Which app (iPad, iPhone, or Mac) and the OS version
  • The app version and build number (TestFlight shows these on the app’s page)
  • Whether the server was reachable at the time, and how it is hosted
  • Which model engine the server is configured with (local, Anthropic API, or a Claude subscription)
  • What you did, what you expected, and what happened instead
  • A screenshot if the problem is visible

Common questions

The app cannot reach my server. Check that the server is running and that the address and key in the app match the ones the server printed at startup. The setup code the server shows can be scanned with the camera from the app’s connection screen so nothing has to be typed. If the server is hosted, make sure it is reachable from the device’s network and that the certificate is valid.

A question was answered “from the chapter alone” by the on-device model. That is what happens when the server is out of reach on Apple Intelligence hardware. The answer used only the chapter you were reading, with no access to your learner record or the rest of the shelf. Reconnect and ask again for a full answer.

My highlights are not showing up on my other device. Marks sync through the server. Both devices need to reach the same server; open the app on each with the server available and give it a moment.

Where is my data? On your devices and on the server you run. Akartis does not receive it. The privacy policy has the full account.

How do I delete my data? Delete the app to remove everything stored on the device. Data on the server is in the server’s state directory; stop the server and remove that directory. If someone else runs the server for you, ask them.

Can I use it without a server? You can read, mark up, and (on supported hardware) ask questions of anything already on the device. Writing new books and primers, syncing, and tutoring with your full record need the server.

Is Chiron on the App Store? Not yet. It is currently distributed to testers through TestFlight, and the source is available on GitHub under the MIT licence for anyone who wants to build it.
