Every engagement starts with a conversation about what the organization is trying to do. The services below are the shapes that work usually takes.
Infrastructure
Network hardware, servers, desktops, storage, and email, from the first requirements conversation through purchasing, installation, configuration, and support.
Typical engagements:
- Specifying and installing the network for a new or renovated facility
- Replacing aging servers and workstations on a budget and a schedule
- Migrating email and file storage to a hosted platform
- Ongoing administration and support after the install
Custom software
When the software an organization needs does not exist, or exists only as an expensive enterprise product with a hundred features it will never use, we build it. We favor small, well-tested tools that do one job and can be maintained by whoever comes after us.
Typical engagements:
- Sales configuration and quoting tools for manufacturers
- Internal utilities that connect systems that do not talk to each other
- Automations that remove a recurring manual task
- Data extraction, reporting, and migration scripts
Strategy and valuation
Technology decisions are business decisions. We help owners and boards think through them: what to buy, what to build, what to keep, and what it is all worth.
Typical engagements:
- Financial valuation of a professional practice ahead of a sale or partnership change
- Technology planning for a move, a merger, or a growth phase
- Vendor and platform selection with a written recommendation
- A second opinion on a proposal from another vendor
Platform administration
Most organizations now run on a handful of hosted platforms. Someone has to own the configuration, the user accounts, the integrations, and the renewals. Often that someone is us.
Typical engagements:
- Email and identity platform setup and administration
- Campaign and constituent software administration for political and nonprofit organizations
- File sharing, backup, and collaboration tools
- Account lifecycle: onboarding, offboarding, and access reviews
Security
Small organizations are targeted precisely because they do not have a security team. We put the fundamentals in place: multi-factor authentication, least-privilege access, patched and backed-up systems, and a plan for when something goes wrong.
Typical engagements:
- Access and authentication review across the organization’s platforms
- Hardening of servers, network equipment, and endpoints
- Backup and recovery design, with a tested restore
- Incident response and cleanup after a compromise
Products
Alongside client work we build and maintain Chiron, an adaptive textbook for iPad, iPhone, and Mac. It is open source and available to run on your own hardware.
